How to Light Charcoal for Resins
Lighting a charcoal puck and gently topping it with pure aromatic resin, is one of life’s true joys. The charcoal we sell is called quick lighting - hold a lighter to it until you see small sparks moving across the top. Once it ignites properly, it will burn through and settle to a glowing coal. This can take a few minutes to light fully and ash over. Be patient, it’s worth waiting for.
If you put the resin on the charcoal too early and before it’s lit properly, it will scorch the resin and smell burnt.
We recommend waiting until the charcoal looks like this…..
Allow the charcoal to ash over completely before adding the resin. We recommend frankincense or myrrh for a rich, timeless aroma—you can also add a few leaves of white sage or a short palo santo stick to give a softer, herbaceous note.
